A BRIEF HISTORY
A group of 15 Baptist Christians from Hong Kong joined together to form the “Vancouver Chinese Baptist Fellowship” in August 1968, inviting Rev. Jonathan Cheung as pastor of the fellowship. Regular Sunday worship services was started a month later with the new name “Vancouver Chinese Baptist Church.”
In July 1969, our church was constituted as the first Chinese Baptist Church in Vancouver. By God’s grace, our number continued to increase and we needed a bigger church building. In January 1979, we purchased and moved into the present building. Current Sunday service attendance totals over 900 people for all three congregations (English, Cantonese and Mandarin).
In 2009, we celebrated our 40 years together with events that focused on the anniversary theme: uniting in love, journeying in hope. A church-wide 40-day devotional journey was embarked upon using a bilingual journal put together by staff. You can download the Adventure with God devotional here.
